Satellite images show coronavirus effect on public life from space

Michael Hardy recently reported for Wired that Maxar satellite imagery shot from low Earth orbit is being used to compare life on Earth before and during the current health pandemic.

“The company’s four imaging satellites take the highest-resolution commercially available photographs, which they sell to clients including governments, corporations, and nonprofits. When major news breaks, they often provide their imagery to media organizations,” reports Hardy.

This comparison shot from Wuhan, China, from October and February shows how self-quarantining looks from afar.

The photos are eery but reassuring. With no vaccine available yet, the only way to stop the spread of the virus is to effecting shelter in place until no new cases are reported.
